Botanical Gardens and a walkabout

Yesterday was a glorious day in Sydney. About 27 C and sunny until about 3 pm in the afternoon.

In the morning we toured around the Royal Botanical Gardens which were beautiful. Below are some pictures I took during our morning walk.

This tree was really interesting because it had no leaves but was starting to blossom.

I think this was a cockatoo. Prior to this I had only seen them in captivity. They are gorgeous birds!

Australians are a bit irreverent.... there were koalas everywhere. : > )

Last - you know who.....

In the afternoon I went on a free tour called I'm Free where you participate in the tour and then donate the amount you think the tour is worth. These entrepreneurs were Architecture students trying to make a go of the company. It was interesting and I learned a few historical things about Sydney.

Ross was our tour guide. His green shirt allowed all of us to spot him in a crowd, especially as we were navigating the busy Sydney streets.

St. Mary's Cathedral is one of the nicest and oldest cathedrals in the area.

There were lots of stories about prominent historical figures as well as the ongoing rivalry between Melbourne and Sydney. This photo is an alleyway that has hung dozens of bird cages in an effort to get a bit more hip and funky. I wonder if it helps?

Today is travel day to Port Lincoln for me and to Melbourne for my hubby. Off to see the Great White Sharks tomorrow.
